Editor’s Notes: Collina Strada, the eco-conscious brand at the forefront of New York City’s fashion scene, is bringing its weird, wonderful eye to the world of Vans. The indie luxury label and footwear giant are gearing up to release the world’s most whimsical skate gear, a collection of marker-scribbled sneakers and butterfly-printed T-shirts.
The centerpiece of the collection is Vans’ classic Slip-On, covered in childlike drawings of houses and flowers. The colorful print is assembled from a series of sketches that Collina Strada founder and creative director Hillary Taymour, who grew up wearing Vans, invited friends and collaborators to create using a single prompt: Draw your dream home.
Also included in the range is Vans‘ Sk8-Hi, wrapped in the pattern of a butterfly wing, and a Vibram-soled version of the Old-Skool, rendered in baby pink and metallic chartreuse.
Dropping online on February 10, the collaboration will also debut at Collina Strada’s Fall/Winter 2023 runway show, scheduled for the same day. Major footwear collabs seem to be a regularly scheduled occurrence for Taymour, who collaborated with Melissa last year. Showing a collection alongside a more accessible collaboration each season is a wise strategy, as it broadens the brand’s customer base to both big and smaller spenders alike.
Judging from Collina Strada’s collaborative résumé, team-ups with Converse and adidas aren’t too far off (we hope!).
