10 of Our Favorite Jordan Retro Colorways

Nike’s Jordan brand is a never-ending revolving door of great colorways. It’s one of the main reasons that the hype around releases is still basically at an all-time high, even after 25 years. The same familiar silhouettes are consistently renewed and met with open arms, but one key to this success is Jordan brand’s ability to revive old colorways.

For the uninitiated, if the Jordan release has the word ‘Retro’ in its title, then that means that it’s a revived colorway, sometimes from decades back. Retro Jordans come around fairly often, and they arguably create more hype than brand-new colorways. It’s a chance for collectors to lay claim to some of the brand’s most coveted colorways without dishing out investment-level funds.

But, with that said, copping Retro Jordans isn’t a cheap game. Some of these fan-favorite reruns end up being more popular than the OG releases, thanks to slight variations in design, for example. Below, with the help of StockX, we’ve laid out a roadmap for those looking to get their Retro Jordans game popping.

On the heels of the latest Jordan 11 Cherry to be released, we’re throwing it back to 2016 when this famous two-tone colorway saw the light of day for the second time since its OG release in 2001. That Cherry Red patent leather is a head-turner.

The Nike Jordan 3 is one of the brand’s best-selling silhouettes and that’s thanks in no small part to colorways like Black Cement. This 2018 rerun of the colorway hit shelves on the Jumpman’s 55th birthday in 2018 and sent fans crazy for the Nike Air branding to the heel. It was the first time we’d seen it since the 2001 Retro release.

Flipping the script, Midnight Navy replaced Nike Air branding with the Jumpman logo when it dropped in October 2022. The color-blocking of this colorway is identical to that of the popular Fire Red palette, with tumbled white leather uppers and speckled trims throughout.

Another surefire way to have Jordan aficionados drooling over a release is to have it geographically exclusive. The Jordan 1 Retro High Yellow Ochre dropped in select retailers across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and Latin America.

Nicknamed the Wine edition, this Jordan 5 landed in 2017 alongside two other colorways: sail and elemental gold. Of course, Bordeaux came out on top thanks to its rich, dark red finish. The pair arrived with a range of luxury touches like the quilted lining as well as the special box. Having retailed for $400, you can actually pick this pair up for less than retail at StockX right now.

One color that epitomizes the Jordan brand is University Blue. Paying homage to Michael Jordan’s alma mater of UNC, this pair is resplendent in the unmistakable hue. For keen followers of Jordan releases, this pair has a special characteristic in that it’s almost identical to the Air Jordan 4 UNC PE that was given to Tarheel student-athletes in 2019 (and good luck getting your hands on a pair of those).

If you’re into Jordans, you probably own a pair of Jordan 3 Fire Reds. This colorway has been given the Retro treatment several times since its initial release in 1988, and it hasn’t lost any of its charm. It’s simple and seriously effective.

Neutral Jordans are few and far between, so when one comes along like the Nike Jordan 5 Retro Take Flight in muted khaki, it’s worth paying attention to. This 2017 release was underrated if you ask us.

We were treated to this Jordan 6 with a solid black nubuck upper in 2022, conjuring memories of the Jordan 6 Low Chrome that was released back in 2015. We can’t get enough of the jet-black upper contrasting with the transparent, icy outsole.

One of our favorite Retro Jordans in recent memory is the Jordan 11 Cool Grey from 2021. It’s so easy to style, and it renewed our undying love for the 11, which we see as one of the most criminally underrated silhouettes on the market.
