Jord Watches Review: Making A Statement
Jord Watches has some unique looking wooden timepieces. I never thought I would say it, but in this review I’m styling a wood watch.
Wood watches aren’t for everyone. They’re trendy and a bit of a novelty item.
If you hate the way they look no one says you have to wear ’em. But if you think they’re pretty cool and are curious how to style one then this post is for you.

A WOOD WATCH AS A STATEMENT PIECE
I wrote about making a statement in the past and when I first saw Jord (pronounced Yode) watches, the first thing that came to mind was that it can make for a great statement piece.
A statement piece is something that commands attention and can serve as a conversation starter. When it comes to menswear, it’s usually a unique accessory that stands out. It never hurts to give people a reason to approach whether at a conference or a social gathering.
If I’m being honest, I didn’t think I could pull off the wooden watch because they seemed too bulky at a glance. I thought they’d be entirely too big for my wrist size (6″). These days I prefer, minimal 36-38mm watches because they flatter my wrist size. Anything bigger than that and something starts looking a little off. But to my surprise, this watch doesn’t look all that bad on my wrist.
I opted for an automatic Jord watch that’s also one of their smaller men’s watch faces (41mm). Their automatic watches have a custom made, in-house movement. I prefer mechanical watches over quartz, for one you never need to replace the battery, plus I like the ticking sound and being able to see the inner-workings of the watch.
DOVER SERIES JORD WATCHES REVIEW
My initial impression upon unboxing was that the watch feels solid. I’ve been wearing it for a few weeks now and it’s been pretty durable, not that I’m reckless with my wrist wear or anything. The wood seems like it can take a beating and not get scratched up.
JORD WATCHES DETAILS
This particular model is made of koa wood, a species native to Hawaii and widely considered to be the most beautiful of the native hardwoods. I personally like the color and that it has a bit of a subtle shine.
The Dover Series is not waterproof, however it is splash resistant. Not a big deal since this isn’t the kind of watch I’d want submerged underwater anyway.
I hate the logo on the front. It’s not necessary and takes away from the beauty of the watch face as a whole, especially with the intricate inner-workings on display.
I do, however like that every single wood watch is going to be unique. There’s not going to be one that’s identical to the one you own, because it’s carved wood.

STYLING THE DOVER KOA & BLACK WATCH
This particular wood watch has a bit of weight to it, but doesn’t come off as super bulky. With the shade of the koa wood and the darker dial, I thought it would pair well with neutral, earth tone shades.
KEY COLORS
The first color that came to mind was olive. It’s one of my favorite colors to wear because it really flatters my skin tone. When I think of earthy colors, blue also comes to mind. And so, green, blue and brown would make for the perfect colors to style this Dover watch.
KEY PIECES
I opted for an olive field jacket layered over top of a blue chambray button down and brown, merino wool turtleneck sweater. This winter, I’ve been rocking turtlenecks a lot, and I thought it could add a lot of style to this semi-rugged look. The chelsea boots in a light brown, suede further smartens the ruggedness of the field jacket. If you didn’t know, I’m all about the smart casual aesthetic.
All in all, the watch isn’t screaming for attention, yet is still making a subtle statement in my opinion.
IN THE END
Overall, I’m impressed with Jord Watches. I never really gave wood watches a chance and thought that they were bulky monstrosities, but this particular watch in my opinion is fairly versatile and can be stylish when paired with the right pieces. If anything a wood watch makes for a great gift.
