The Internet Has Spoken: These Are the Best Apple iOS 16 Features

At Apple’s 2022 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in Cupertino, the announcement of iOS 16 stole the show, thanks to a bevy of new features — some that we asked for and others that we didn’t see coming — set to elevate the iPhone experience.

Social media has lit up with reactions to the upcoming operating system, slated to release this fall. Judging from online reaction, iOS 16’s most anticipated feature is the ability to unsend and edit Messages, a relief for risky texters and a loss for screenshot-happy receipt collectors.

But don’t get too excited — in a press release, Apple clarified that the “unsend” and “edit” features are only available for up to 15 minutes after a message is sent. Users can also recover recalled messages for up to 30 days after deletion.

“Unsend” is also coming to Apple’s Mail app, allowing users to rescind an e-mail for up to ten seconds after hitting send.

Also major — widgets on Lock Screen! A feature Android users already enjoy, iPhone loyalists will be able to customize their Lock Screens with widgets for the calendar, weather, and fitness apps (plus more).

A feature sure to yield plenty of creative results, Visual Look Up allows users to isolate the subject of an photo, copy said subject, and use it as a “sticker” in Messages. You’ll also be able to protect your “Recently Deleted” and “Hidden” photo albums with Face ID, a sneaky addition akin to Apple’s introduction of “unsend.”

The smallest yet most life-changing feature, though, is the ability to view, copy, and paste your WiFi network password in Settings — finally!

iOS 16 won’t release to the public for a few months — insiders predict it’ll drop in September 2022, after Apple’s annual iPhone event. In the meantime, brush up on everything you missed at Apple’s 2022 WWDC keynote presentation.
